Wednesday, 1/31 - Chores
The boat is
encrusted in salt. Everything we touch leaves salt crystals on our hands. While
Pete power washed and scrubbed the boat, I did a thorough cleaning of the
salon, head and forward cabin. The
screens were also scrubbed. I can’t
believe they had gotten so dirty.
We met Tom and
his Shepard, Mate from the boat to our
port, MV LADY GALE. Mate and Bailey got
along great.
We have had
problems getting local TV stations as well as the schedule guide on the Dish satellite. Pete spent over 90 minutes working with the
customer reps from both Dish and KVH, but FINALLY met with success. We now have
local programming. We have to contact DISH with the local zip code periodically
as we travel up and down the coast due to different satellites used in specific
areas. The guide is necessary not only
for programming information, but also for the DVR is required to record, pause
and/or reverse. Time well spent, Pete!
Super Bowl is this Sunday and the Olympic begin the end of next week!
After dinner, we
enjoyed TV, but still called it an early night.
We were both exhausted.
Thursday, 2/1 - I
was able to do 4 loads of laundry.
Unfortunately, only 2 of the 4 washing machines were working when I
started and the other machine was already in use. So, I started load #1 and
returned to the boat to vacuum the floors and cushions. Then I walked back to the laundry to start
loads #2 and #3, then returned with the rugs and Bailey’s bedding to hang on
the line Pete strung in the cock pit. I
headed to the laundry around 9 am and by the time everything was dry and
folded, it was past 1 pm. After lunch,
it was time to put all the laundry away.

Our new friends,
Dorine, John and Cindy, from SV DOLCE VENTO arrive this afternoon and will
spend the next month here on docked on E dock. They stopped by before they
headed to Hogfish for dinner. We are looking forward to doing things with
them.
Friday, 2/2 - After breakfast, I headed over to the
hotel thinking I would use the exercise facility there as a number of our
neighbors said they do. I was told I
need to use the marina’s gym over by Coconut Alley, on the other side of the
marina, where most of the liveaboards have their boats on Med moors. I was able
to use the treadmill for an hour, walked 3 miles felt good afterwards.
Fins for the new dinghy motor |
Pete was able to
install the fins on the motor. Pete,
Bailey and I took it out for a quick run and she rides much better now.
Bailey has been making a fuss over our
neighbor to port, Paula and her husband Steve aboard SV TABLE FOR TWO. They are from New Bedford and will be having
lots of company over the next month.
Around 4, Cindy and John stopped by to ask for a ride to the
hospital. Dorine fell down the steps of
the companion way and dislocated her shoulder. We lent them our car. After 3
hours in the ER, the shoulder was immobilized, and she was released. She will
have to be careful, for a while not to separate the joint or do anything that
will over extend it. The toe that she broke in the fall is more painful than
the shoulder.
Saturday, 2/3 - There are a few things I need to restock
the refrigerator, but first it needed to be defrosted, which was started just
before breakfast. We both did a few
small chores and then a lot of reading.
I did make a chocolate pudding pie. Unfortunately, the boxes were old
and the flavor was terrible. Shame on me
for not checking dates on the boxes. I
will never do that again.
I did stop by DOLCE VENTO to coordinate plans
to watch the Super Bowl tomorrow. We will meet up and head over to the Salty
Oyster Poolside bar to watch the game.
Hopefully, it will be a great game.
Sunday 2/4 - Before I headed to Publix to pick up makings
for snacks for tonight’s game, I had a nice visit with Deb and Hugh of SV
SIMPLICITY. They are from Boise, but
began their journey on the West Coast.
They sailed down form Oregon to Panama. The boat was placed on a truck
and delivered to the Caribbean coast and sailed it to here. After a possible jump to the Bahamas, they
are planning to head up to Maine and possibly beyond.
Pete and I had
discussed the possibility that we might not get a seat at the bar. We arrange the salon to accommodate 5 just in
case, hence the run to Publix.
Part of the
afternoon was spent reading out in “our porch.”
I was also able to write additional entries for the blog. Unfortunately, there was no way to post any
of it due to the high use of the internet between the marina and the hotel.

Drinks at the Salty Oyster and Game |
Cindy, Dorine and John met us around 5:40 to head over to the Sandy Oyster Pool Bar. We were very fortunate to snag great table to watch he game. John needed to head back due to not feeling well, but Pete had the 3 ladies for company. The specials tonight included $5 hamburger platters or wings, and select beers for $1. . . YUM!
The commercials
were unexciting, but the game was unbelievable. We stayed at the bar for the first 3
quarters. Dorine’s broken toe (which is
also from the fall) was beginning to ache.
We suggested we return to PEKABU where we can watch the final quarter
and she can elevate her foot.
EAGLES Super Bowl Champions! |
Both teams played
well and scored in each quarter. The
kickers on both teams missed a number of extra points. There was only 1 sack, that was of Patriots’
QB, Tom Brady and Phili recovered the fumble in the final 2 minutes. Phili’s QB, Nick Foles, is the back-up QB,
who has only played since mid-December, when the regular QB was taken out with
a knee injury in a post-season game. He is the only QB who threw and received a
touchdown pass in a Super Bowl. There were 2 questionable TD’s, that were ruled
in Phili’s favor as TD’s. It was only in the final few minutes that the
Patriots underestimated the Phili’s defense, which knocked down the Patriot’s
Hail Mary pass. The final score was
41-33. The Eagles, for the first time,
are now Super Bowl Champions! P.S. That back-up QB was also named Super Bowl
52’s MVP!!! FLY EAGLES FLY!!! Woo Hoo!!!
