Total: 1510 miles 215.3 hours
Anchor was up and we were underway by 9:30
after stopping for fuel.
There was no wind, but there were some
high clouds and calm seas. We saw no
turtles today, but did see schools of fish, a small shark and mile after mile
of the sea bottom. It was a bit
disconcerting knowing that the depth sounder showed 18-20 feet of water, but
our brains wanted to believe we were only in 2 feet. . . with a 5-foot keel!
Since it was a Saturday, all the dive
boats were out at the reefs. There must
have been over a hundred boats around Alligator Reef. With the water so clear, the dives must have
been spectacular!
We anchored off Rodriguez Key around 6 pm. Here is one of our longest dinghy runs to
take Bailey ashore – over 1.2 miles. The
boat cannot be seen at night from shore, even with a light on in the cockpit! The
skies were beautiful tonight. Without
the moon, the stars were so bright and we could see thousands! Unfortunately, with no winds, there were also
hundreds of mosquitoes!
Interesting clouds forming over Key Largo to our west |
