Road Trip for Lunch

One of the modern conveniences that has not transitioned to boating is a self-defrosting refrigerator.  I have been holding off as long as possible, but today was the day that both the built in and our portable freezers needed defrosting. . . again.  It means unpacking everything and placing them into coolers, hoping they don’t defrost too much.  I am glad to report it was a success.
The six of us decided since we had the car rental, we would head out to lunch.  Candi recommended a great spot on the next Key north, Gilbert’s Resort.  It is located on the cut Brunelle had taken when she wandered into the ICW marked for boats who take less than 5 feet of draft!  Brunelle did have problems with her almost 6 feet of draft! (This explains our journey though Hawk’s channel on the ocean side from Biscayne Bay to Key West and back to Key Largo.) On the return trip home we stopped at a fresh vegetable stand and I couldn’t resist more of the fresh pineapple along with other fruits and veggies.

A great "chillin" spot . . .
and the burgers ain't bad either!
