Beyond the "Dunes"

Brunelle, Pekabu and Andiamo in the fog
As we rose this morning, the marina was shrouded in thick fog.  Dan, Martha, John and Betty headed out this morning, heading north by car for family events.  Midmorning, the fog began to lift. Since we and the Nenecek’s are remaining here at River Dunes, we decided to rent a car.  This place is very nice, but very isolated.  Just to rent the car Pete and Glen had to travel 35 minutes to New Bern.

We headed out as the rains started.  Since it was already past noon, we decided to have a nice lunch. Pete had asked the person from the car rental for suggestions for dining; one was Persimmons, on the water in New Bern.  We were able to find it and he was right.  It was all locally grown, organic food with a southern flair and really good.  As we were arriving, a boating group was just leaving from their luncheon/function. While we were eating, I watched a duck washing and preening himself . . . in the pouring rain! Can anyone explain the specific timing??? Had the weather been nicer, Old Town New Bern would have been nice to explore.  We could see lots of painted bear statues placed throughout the area and interesting colonial architecture and revitalization though the sheets of rain.  Did you know that New Bern is the birth place of Coke Cola?

Pete finally admitted his boat shoes need to be replaced, so it off to West Marine, JC Penny for me, CVS, then Food Lion.  I was disappointed with their “fresh” items. Hopefully, we will head out on Monday for those couple of fresh items, perhaps at a different place.

We were back by 6:30, but opted to skip dinner as we were still full from late lunch.  Pete went over things with Heather. I worked on getting two days posted to the blog while Pete watched and I listed to Bones and Fringe on TV, which we were surprisingly able to pick up very well.
