River Dunes and Cruisers

We were up early to meet the refrigeration mechanic.  Our freezer is no longer keeping the magic single digit numbers it had been. We are now seeing mid-twenties and the top items are defrosting.  The top of the refrigerator is in the mid-fifties. J.C., the manager here at river Dunes, had recommended Asa Gatlin, of Gatlin Marine Services. He was good, very informative, and reasonable.  He even called later in the day to see how we were making out.  Unfortunately, as the day progressed, our temperatures haven’t changed that much, even with the coolant charge and defrosting of the freezer.  We might have to start using the new portable freezer we purchased at the boat show.
It is hard to believe that we have been out for two plus weeks already.  Our reality check is that we really needed to do laundry. Pete volunteered so I could work on the pictures and try to get the blog posted since we have some internet.  Unfortunately, both dryers are out of service.  They will be fixed tomorrow, but we really can’t wait. Pete borrowed the courtesy car and went the Laundromat in town. He did really well, but since he had options on the size of the dryers, he questioned a woman if he could do dry both loads in one of the extra large dryers. She was able to offer advice even though she spoke no English and Pete spoke no French. She, too, is a fellow cruiser.

Tonight’s dinner was a wonderful sirloin soup. There were close to twenty who came to dinner.  Angie and Mike Williams, Lady of Lorien, Ipswich, UK, shared their experiences sailing the Bahamas as well as Europe, the North Sea, and the Atlantic.  Others challenged their expertise at bowling or golf on the Wii, shot pool or shared good old conversation around a warm fire.  A very pleasant evening was had by all.

Wonderful friends, food, fire and
conversation...
How much better does it get?!
