Little Harbor and Pete’s Pub

Dan caught a fish while
heading down to Lynyard Cay.
We were up early to top off the water tanks and fill up with fuel.  We were to meet Brunelle as they pass the marina around 9 AM.  Today’s plan was to headed back to Lynyard Cay and anchor so that we could spend a good part of the day over at Pete’s Pub and Gallery. Once anchored, we took the dinghy for the mile and a half trip to Little Harbor. The cruising guides warned against deep draft boats coming and going in anything less than the high tide. Without a depth meter we could not be sure, but we tried to sound it out with a broom handle and there was more than 5 feet under the dinghy coming in through the channel, at least where we checked.
Pete’s Pub is famous in this part of the cruising world.  It is THE place to see, a beach bar with good food, good music and good times, plus a gallery where local artists sell their works, including the owner Peter Johnson, the sculpture, and his son Greg, the artist. The foundry is right on the property. We missed the pouring at the foundry by only a couple of days. They pour into the molds about once a month.   We fell in love with a beautiful bronze of a turtle “swimming” over driftwood (as Pete says “more weight in the boat!”). After visiting the gallery, we were able to walk about and explore some of the shoreline, gather some shells and coral.

The bar at Pete’s Pub is a relatively small triangle “manned” by a very bright, multitasking woman with a fantastic memory.  She would start a tab under the boat name and manage to keep everyone straight.  Pete went back for seconds and she commented that he had taken off his hat and changed his glasses (from his sun glasses).  There had to be over 75 people at the place. They were running a special with a Roasted Pork and Lamb Dinner as well as live music.  Pete found an extra large covered table and we were able to sit there for probably an hour and a half as we waited for the dinner to be ready. As promised, food was good.

The ride back was a bit more sloppy than our ride in earlier in the day as the winds have picked up as promised. Once back onboard, we read and watch the turtles surface and dive.  One loves to splash as he turns quickly to dive.
Another great day. If the winds hold off, we hope to do some snorkeling before heading north to Hope Town. We will have to see come morning.
