No More Bahaman Sand

Our last sunrise over land in the Bahamas -this time at Powell Cay.
Brunelle was up and hoisted anchor before first light to get over to Coopers Town for internet first thing in morning. This would be the last opportunity to get the buoy and weather information for the crossing as well as e-mails. Andiamo and we pulled anchors at 7 AM as planned; just at the sun was emerging from the trees.
You can see the bottom, includng the chain for the anchor, sea worm and grasses
The precision drill boats once again met up at Crabs Cay.  As we continued on, we passed a lone rock sitting in the middle of the water quite away from Little Abaco Island.  It is called “Center of the World Rock.”  We can only speculate on how it got its name.
Things remained quiet on the radio most of the morning.  However, late morning we heard of someone taking on water off of Fox Town, on Little Abaco Island, but only one boat heard the call for help and they were 20 miles away. Unfortunately, at that time we were even further away.

Our original plan was to head to Sale Cay.  We would have been there by mid afternoon, had time to explore the uninhabited island and have heavy appetizers one last time in the Bahamas.  However, it was discussed and agreed upon that we could continue on another few hours, bypassing Sale Cay continuing on to Lilly Sand Bank another 3 hours out.  This would give us ad 3 hour head start in the morning. So once again we dropped anchor in the middle of nowhere on a shifting, shallow sandbar.

The last sight of the Bahamas for us!
Anchored again in the 50 miles
 from anywhere.
It was a warm, humid, still, clear night.  The current kept us from enjoying the very slight breeze, but the waves eventually lulled us into slumber. Before I dozed off, I remember hearing one of the hosts of the Cruisers Net here in Abaco bidding other cruisers’ farewell.  Rosie would remind them that they would have sand in their shoes, which would always bring them back to the Bahamas.  We missed the sand from Sale Cay, but I am sure I still have sand from Powell Cay in the shells we found.
