Big Majors Cay & Thunderball Grotto

That is Pekabu anchored in those beautiful blues and greens!
The winds have finally subsided.  We left the moorings at Cambridge Cay around 10 AM headed for Big Majors Cay and Thunderball Grotto.  Andiamo and we headed straight for the anchorage, while Brunelle tried to get in some sailing but the wind was dying.

Once anchored, Brunelle and Andiamo dinghied over to Staniel Cay while Pete and I dinghied over to the beach to check out the pigs.  Here on Big Majors the wild pigs will swim out to the dinghy hoping for a handout.  Today there were only two who were really interested.  Then we took a ride to see where the grotto was located.  We arrived back at the boat the same time as the other two dinghies.
A quick change, grabbed the snorkeling gear and we were on our way back to the grotto to explore its wonders.  We needed to wait until just before low tide to swim through the openings between the rocks.  As I approached the rocks, an entire “squadron” of sergeant majors came up to great me.  Once inside, I found myself in a large ball with holes in the 20 foot high ceiling, which are natural skylights. Under the water, there were over 15 different species of fish, all beautiful. I wish I had a really good underwater camera to capture the beauty of the grotto. When we emerged from the grotto we were no longer the only dinghies present.  There were at least 5 more dinghies also tied to the mooring.
These are untouched photos . . . the colors you see are what you get!
(By the way the name of the boat is SV Bikini Club, just in case you're wondering.)
We needed to say our good-bys to Sam, Jess, Ben and Oliver (visiting Brunelle) as well as Julia (Andiamo).  They would be departing in the next day or two, but unfortunately, Pete needs to put in some heavy work time. As a result, we need to pull the anchor and head up to Sampson Cay Club, where we will be staying until Friday.  It is the one marina that not only has internet, but also laundry, fuel, restaurant, small store, and protected docks. It looked beautiful in the advertisement. . . and the picture didn’t lie.  This place is gorgeous!  We tied up to the dock a little before 5 PM, but will have to wait until the morning until the office opens.  It appears that most of the business here in the Bahamas closes by noon on Sunday if they are open at all.
The waters here are so clear at one point I looked down and see fish like in an aquarium, but then I saw a nurse shark swim under OUR boat!
