Schroud Cay and Getting Lucky

The weatherman predicted gentler winds and he delivered.  We left at 8:30 and we headed towards Schroud Cay.  Brunelle opted to tack, in search of a gentler ride.  Poor Oliver, the 9 month old grandson, had a bout with sea sickness yesterday.  Andiamo was able to make great time using the Jib with the engine as an assist.  We could only use the main due to our missing hardware on the job.
As usual, we were the last of our fleet to arrive at the mooring field around 4:30 PM.  Thankfully, there were still two balls available.  Both were for up to 150 foot boats, but they would have no problem holding our little 35 foot boat.  Pete was able to create the special loops needed for the mooring balls with a single line.  John went ashore to pay the $20 mooring fee for the 3 boats at the drop box.
Just a couple of tourists!
Since we still had daylight and the high tide, the three boats took the dinghies for a ride up the river.  It was really pretty to ride through the mangroves, limestone, and palm trees to the ocean beach.  We took advantage of a quick photo op as Oliver was getting antsy and headed back.

We were having real problems with a huge ice build in house freezer so I had to defrost on our way to the mooring, the worst possible time! I packed everything from the small freezer and the large refrigerator into coolers and covered them with blankets to keep them cold while the freezer defrosted while we were cruising the river.  Thankfully, most of the ice had loosened/softened while we were out.  I was able to create snowballs and remove the snow/ice from the freezer. Very little water made it to the drainage area. I kept the refrigerator closed in an attempt to keep that as cool as possible. I found that I could use a wooden spoon to get the snow from under and alongside the freezer box and pull it forward. Within 2 hours it was defrosted, dried, and turned back on to start cooling.  We did turn on the generator and air conditioning when we returned, hoping that the AC would not only cool thing down, but dehumidify things a little. An hour after the unit had been turned back on, the temperatures had already fallen in all 3 compartments enough so that I unpacked my coolers. Stuff in the coolers were still frozen or cold. Whew!

Sometimes you just get lucky. We got one of the last two mooring balls in the anchorage. We were lucky that nothing serious happened when we lost the part for the jib.  We got lucky in that we found the part for the jib and it is being sent as I write. I got lucky in that I was able to defrost the refrigerator/freezer while underway in the Bahamas.  We are lucky just being here with wonderful friends here in the Bahamas living a long ago dream!
